I had this dream to have a blog about social media like forever now, but as soon as I reached this point when I needed to start writing the first post for this blog, somehow I postponed it as long as I could. I had no idea how… So, since I’d googled everything the last few years (i.e. my friends and other people (seriously, there is no privacy online), the explanation of the things I don’t understand or know, and so on), of course, I googled how I should write this first post also (How to Write Your First Blog Post or About Page from Make Money Online with Alvin Nyau, Writing Effective Blog Posts from Chris Borgan‘s blog,Your First Blog Post – What to Write from Bloggertalk for the Masses, How to Write Your First Blog Post from Search Engine Guide). Well, now I know, I have to keep it under 500 words, state the purpose of the blog and try to get your attention. I still needed to write it myself though…
So here we go. Behind THESING you can find a Spanish girl Ana and Lithuanian girl Monika (that’s me), and you can discover more info on us in section “About us”. In short, Ana is doing her internship in London now, and I am still staying in Aarhus, where we studied at the master programme of Corporate Communication at Aarhus School of business (ASB) together. Last year we wrote a paper about blogging during a crisis together that was quite successful. Therefore, we decided to write thesis (it is about social media, of course) together and see how we’d be able to manage it, if we weren’t at the same place.
First, we thought about THESING as a medium where students, academics and business-orientated people could “meet” and discuss social media. We want to blog not only about the advantages of it, but also the risks businesses can meet when they decide to get involved with social media. However, you have to know, we believe that social media is good, it is great, in fact, and we love it!
Second, we are a bit selfish, and we hope that, if we share our thoughts about thesis, you could give us some feedback and maybe suggestions how to improve it. Well, this is actually one of the reasons why companies should blog as well. If you do it right, your customers might provide you the ideas, useful for your business, and also you might get the impression of what they think about your company.
Third, it is all about sharing the love, as Ana says. We believe that we can have some interesting insights or links to share with you about social media. But also we want to share our thoughts about thesis writing. Since we are doing it in a distance from each other, obviously, we have some difficulties to overcome, like no actual meetings, file sharing, procrastination (we do it a lot sometimes, especially because whole social media field is so involving… Once we are out there, it is sometimes difficult to stop…), “panic attacks” when we don’t know, if what we’re writing is actually right or makes sense at all, and there is no one to call in the middle of the night to calm you down. We wanted to share all this too, and we hope, that maybe you’ll find it useful, interesting to read, maybe funny, and worth commenting sometimes.
Well, I failed big time. I had to delete something already, and it is still more than 500 words… hope that you kept on reading until the end and stay with us later. That’s it for the first, and we’ll try to keep it short next time…
